Franklin Hikes City Property Tax Increase to 50 Percent
Franklin voters face a 50 percent rise in real estate taxes for 1975 after the City Council approved a budget hike from 16 to 24 mills. The total appropriations reach $2,968,804 with $831,000 in Special Revenue Sharing funds earmarked for projects yet to be decided. A December 30 meeting will finalize the budget with Mayor Guy Mammolite promising review. Wage increases, high costs, and debt service drive the increase as officials report cuts, including reducing police from 19 to 17, and other staff reductions.
