90 Perish As Fire Destroys Chicago School

A fast moving fire at Our Lady of the Angels School in Chicago killed ninety people including 87 students and three Sisters of Charity. More than 85 were hospitalized with burns and injuries as emergency crews battled to rescue pupils trapped on upper floors. Fire officials suspect an oil type blaze started near the northeast stairway. the incident prompted a large arson probe and an outpouring of parental anxieties as firefighters and priests aided survivors.

Crash Fatal To Family In Pennsylvania Pike Crash

An Air Force sergeant Elmer Mitchell 35 his wife Louise 38 and their 19 month old daughter Mary Anne were killed in a two vehicle crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near berrary. Mitchells five month old son Anthony and his sister-in-law Philumin Ferrara 19 escaped serious injuries. Mitchell was headed from Thanksgiving weekend at home to Lockbourne Air Force Base in Columbus Ohio where he had just been assigned.

Lost Boy Found By Area Searchers Near Creek

David Diehl a 15 year old from Erie was found near Elgin by an area search party after going hunting with Charles Sheppard. He was hospitalized for cold exposure but not seriously hurt and to be released today. Fire Department and Civil Defense aided in the rescue.

Corry School Board Elects S A Long President

S A Long was elected president of the Corry Board of Education at the organizational meeting last night in the high school. He succeeds Hubert Vaughn after nine terms as president. New officers for the Jointure will be elected next meeting Monday night. Robert Tunnel as vice president and Fran Mel ICnight as solicitor were noted.

Mayor Kinley pushes budget cuts amid police car fuel use

Mayor Jared Kinley urged tighter city spending after reports showed 340 gallons of gasoline used by the police car and 481 gallons by streets department vehicles. London AP report says some Allied diplomats favor testing Khrushchev with a plebiscite in West Berlin to approve or reject his plan for a demilitarized free city. If rejected, Khrushchev would drop the scheme. if accepted, Allied troops would withdraw. Informants say this is one of several ideas under consideration and that Moscow may avoid submitting to public opinion.
