Sikes Salmon Memo Misdelivery Highlights Alaska Shipment
Congressman Robert Sikes faced a shipping snafu when frozen Alaskan salmon sent by a friend to his office ended up in military mail and later delivered to Washington. An Army lieutenant retrieved the fish from a mailbag at Ft Meade and arranged delivery after a blunt inquiry. The episode underscores logistics quirks in military courier service. Two Nixon operatives, Murray Chotiner and Harry Dent, aided political maneuvering during the period.
