City and Vicinity Notes and Local Happenings

War grief and local notices weave through a terse Jamestown area page. Staff Sgt. George E. Lenar Jr. was killed in action over Germany on Feb 21, while his widow receives a telegram and faces fresh loss as her husband’s death follows the recent passing of her son’s father. Local items include a hunting bear sighting near Whi Hill, a new constable appointment in Girard, a busier storm closing schools, and a police cruiser accident in Titusville. Shipping potato prices rise, CAP cadets drill, and Rex Theatre prize climbs to 275 dollars.
