Rabbit climbs 280 ft with 6 ft net per hop
A rabbit starts at ground and hops 8 ft up then slides 2 ft back each hop. Net gain per hop is 6 ft. To reach 280 ft, after n hops the height is 6n. However on the final hop the rabbit reaches or passes the top without sliding back. Solve 8n - 2(n-1) = 280 for n gives 6n +2 = 280, n=46. Therefore 46 hops.
