Shapp Vesco ties under federal scrutiny studied by U S attorney
U S Attorney Blair Griffith said his office is interested in allegations that financier Robert Vesco funded free transport for Governor Milton Shapp in 1970. He warned potential grounds for federal action may be limited while noting Pennsylvania law bans corporate campaign contributions. The pilot, Alwyn Eisenhauer, plans a forthcoming book and claims Vesco sought Shapp influence to help Vesco’s son enter Lehigh University, a claim Lehigh disputes.
