Acheson Ouster Demands Signal McCarthy Clash
Acheson and Jessup faced renewed calls for resignation from McCarthy supporters as he threatened to quit the Senate if the jury cleared them of charges. McCarthy mocked libel limits while foes urged court proofs of the accusations. The dispute arose during a VFW convention addressed by Maurice J. Tobin. In Pittsburgh a judge sentenced Ard Bhir A. Rocco to ten years and a $10,000 fine for transporting and selling stolen bonds.
