Ask New Hearing In 62 Slaying
DUNKIRK N Y A hearing for a new trial has been requested by Leo Joseph Mleczko, convicted in 1962 of slaying Dunkirk Police Lt Mark Elfman. The petition seeks a writ of error to determine if his confession was voluntary after hospitalization for a revolver wound. Mleczko, shot by Patrolman Gordon Vetter, was found guilty of second degree murder and is serving 35 years in Attica. A special session in September may decide if a hearing is warranted.
