Norbert R. Bachomer protests Pennsylvania Bureau of Motor Vehicles delays in vehicle registrations and plates. 13-year-old Andrew Odom was pierced by a four-foot barbed spear on Beer Can Island, Florida. Over the weekend city police logged a flurry of arrests and citations. Robyn R Bounds 23 of 35 Stefano Circle faced reckless endangerment charges after a confrontation in the Marine Bank lot with Doreen Halfast of 32 Snyder Circle. Juvenile incidents included illegal alcohol possession on East Main near Oasis Bar, loitering at Red Barn, and a 14 year old charged with reckless endangerment after a pellet gun incident injuring a 12 year old girl on East South Street. An alley collision near North Center and West Smith streets occurred amid street lining work. Additional reports included criminal mischief at 335 East Main and prowling on Railroad Street with suspects to be interviewed. Total damages listed at 5.
Four men were arrested in Memphis on reports they planned to steal Elvis Presley’s body for ransom. Police say explosives were found and the group aimed to blast open Presley’s mausoleum at Forest Hills Cemetery near Elvis Presley Boulevard. Investigations continue.
Cooper Industries reports 4 868 employees enrolled in the 1977 Employee Stock Purchase Plan acquiring 148 850 shares for 6 204 068 dollars. Participation at the Corry Energy Services plant reached 189, up 66 percent from 1975.
Jerome J. Diabo, 21, is jailed in Warren County after allegedly trying to ram a Warren Borough roadblock with a stolen car. He faces charges including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, fleeing, attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and driving without a license. Police arrested him about 11:45 p.m. Saturday following the incident starting around 11:20 p.m. after a call from Lindy Love Hansen.
Corry state police investigate a rape in Oil Creek Township. An 18 year old Titusville girl was abducted late Saturday, driven to a wooded area along a road in Oil Creek Township, and raped by two men after being forced into a car. Police said she was walking on a Titusville street when seized.
In Miami a 16 year old foster ward Vernon Louis Swain was doused with gasoline and set afire by two 15 year old brothers after frightening one with lighter fluid. Jack Walker 51 ordered the attack and is jailed on attempted murder charges. The other boys face similar charges while in youth detention. Swain suffered severe burns and is in critical condition at Variety Children's Hospital. The incident occurred last Wednesday and was reported after Swain disclosed details to doctors.
Two Cleveland police officers stopped a speeding tow truck and uncovered a yard full of stolen vehicles at Chris Towing and Transmission Service. A 21-year-old driver was arrested after admitting the car was stolen from an elderly woman. An 85-year-old man at the address was also arrested. Det. Karnatowald said six cars, two trucks, and a $40,000 farm tractor were recovered and investigators are probing a larger theft ring using independent tow truck drivers for parts.
