Russians Expect Long Peace Meet
The Japanese peace treaty conference opens in San Francisco five days next week while the Russian delegation appears to plan a longer stay. Emissaries tried to rent a 17 room mansion for a month or six weeks, then tentatively booked 24 rooms and two suites at the St Francis Hotel at 400 dollars daily. The bid unsettled the San Francisco Opera Company, which rehearses at the Opera House near the treaty site. The conference is set to end September 8, with the opera company moving in two days after.
