PHRC Set To Shuffle Erie Schools
The Erie School District may be forced to relocate many elementary pupils under a desegregation plan reportedly forthcoming from the state Human Relations Commission. WICU said it had a copy of the plan proposing two school closings and moving 1,087 students, with 745 bused and others walking. The proposal would shift 60 percent more black students than white students to buses. Commonwealth Court must approve, and Erie would pay costs and implement. A local taxpayers group leader threatened federal suit, saying Erie decisions should stay in Erie.
