The United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania schedules its September term with hearings in Erie. Most civil and criminal trials will occur at the Erie federal building starting September 16. One federal judge will preside. nine civil actions are jury trials.
A grand jury session delayed as witnesses testy about voluntary manslaughter charges against George Foggin, 39, of Buffalo, and Jack Tupitza, 21, of Erie. The case stems from the June crash that killed year old Joan Dubinski on 10th Street and East Avenue after Foggin allegedly lost control while passing Tupitza.
A surprise 25th wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Ton followed a prayer meeting. Guests gathered at Rebekah Hall with Bull Moose Hunt Club members and neighbors. A program featured readings, singing by a local quartet, and remarks by Rev. Edward Ton, with lunch served buffet style and a two tiered cake centerpiece.
Erie reports ten new industries seeking Erie locations within a week. Secretary James K. Shields says floor spaces range 10 000 to 300 000 square feet mostly for consumer goods, with eight branch plants and two main offices planned. housing shortage noted.
