The move follows expanded demobilization and adds overseas service credit to discharge formulas, with adjustments similar to Army and Marine systems.

Aug 28. In occupied Germany top Allied orders require removal of every Nazi party member or former member from all positions of authority in German civil service. Gen Eisenhower and Lt Gen Luis D. Clay announced the purge after a three day conference of Allied commanders. The ban includes disallowing any temporary use of former Nazi members.
American airborne troops took command of Atsugi airfield as Third Fleet forces entered Tokyo Bay marking the start of Japan occupation. General MacArthur set plans for Yokosuka and Atsugi, while smaller ships and Marines secured guarding islands, with 20 Japanese surrender attempts reported and air and sea movements continuing into the night.
