Former Pike Chief Draws 2 To 4 Months
Harrisburg AP Former Pike chief Franklin McSorley was sentenced to two to four months in prison for misconduct in office as chair of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. He must be removed from the commission, pay court costs and a $1,000 fine. His appeal to the State Superior Court was indicated. McSorley, suspended since last year, showed no emotion at sentencing. The case involved keeping a driver on the state payroll to chauffeur former Chairman Thomas Evans for eight months after Evans retired. District Attorney Dowling urged a prison sentence. McSorley’s counsel argued he had already been punished and that the act was common private practice. Judge Kreider found he failed to discharge duties with fidelity. The trial began Nov. 13, 1957. he was convicted four days later and is appealing to the Superior Court.
