Fire Damages King Chair Plant Building
A fire at the former King Chair factory on East Washington Street caused about 8200 damage to the upper story of a 20 by 80 foot two story frame building. The blaze started around 7:30 a.m. and had gained headway before discovery. Two streams brought the fire under control, but the interior of the roof and sidewalls were burned. The Thompson-Bibow Company did not own the building, and no machinery of value was stored there. Officials believe the fire may have originated from a lighted clourette dropped by a transient, as the building had long served as lodging for itinerants.
