Child 5 Struck by Train on Trestle Here
Five year old John Vernon Fairchilds, son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Fairchilds of 545 West Church Street, was killed when struck by Erie Railroad freight No 38 while on a trestle near the South branch of Rhoneh Creek. He fell from the structure as warning shouts went unheard. He sustained fracture skull, broken femur, and other injuries. The incident occurred about 2:20 pm Wednesday. The boy’s brothers witnessed the tragedy and attempted to intervene but could not save him. An ambulance transported him to Bracken-Keating Funeral Home. services set for Friday at 2:30 pm, interment at Pine Grove cemetery.
