PennDOT Recovers Half of Road Damage Costs
In Harrisburg AP: Pennsylvania s Department of Transportation recovers only about 50 percent of the 2 million dollars in annual damage to guardrails and signs from motorists. It pays 300000 dollars yearly to repair vandalized signs and relies on settlement with insured drivers. Last year 1090000 dollars came from insurers. the rest from uninsured or cashless motorists. ARCO oil tanker damage on the Schuylkill Expressway prompted a possible pre winter work arrangement with insurance. No fault insurance and budget cuts pressure PennDOT to improve recoveries and potentially delay some repairs.
