Spotlight on Ada and the 1952 political realignment
The ADA faces ongoing spotlight in the 1952 campaign as backers of Eisenhower clash with Americans for Democratic Action. Republicans label the ADA as promoting socialistic schemes while ADA counters that Eisenhower must run amid smear and isolationist charges. The split, intensified by postwar realignment, places ADA farther left than its 1947 founding. Gov Bowles of Connecticut, an ADA affiliate, backed Eisenhower early in the process.
