Insurance rate cuts proposed for schools hospitals and churches

Harrisburg authorities announced a plan by the Middle Department Association of Fire Underwriters offering 2 to 50 percent reductions in fire and related insurance costs for eligible public and private schools hospitals churches and similar buildings. The program requires regular fire inspections annual reviews 90 percent value coverage and a $1000 deductible with a minimum annual premium and rates set after property studies.

Planning aiding steering committee boosts Corry project progress

The City Planning Commission and Steering Committee in Corry, aided by Michael Baker engineering firm, welcomed 17 members and got an offer from a civic affairs group to recruit more locals. Reed J. Dunn Jr. said Baker surveys will be finalized in February, with local planning staff to take over afterward. The group reviewed streets and highways and parking surveys, highlighting Route 6 bypass impact and traffic flow.

Kinaua Project Trains Affected By Rail Changes

The Kinaua Dam project prompts Pennsylvania Railroad to remove tracks near the dam site between Warren and Salamanca and shift operations to the Chautauqua Division. Kennedy To Push Medical Care Bill As Campaign Issue

A Franklin area pilot Orville Dale Boyer 38, employed by Buckeye Pipeline Corp, died when his two passenger plane struck a high tension wire over the Allegheny River and crashed. The crash near Rookmere, Venango County, followed a prior county air mishap within 19 days. No eyewitnesses. lights flickered as the craft dived nose first into the water. Boyer is survived by a wife and six children.

Kennedy Health Plan Defeated in Senate 51 to 44

The Senate rejected Kennedy's proposal to tie broad medical care for the aged to Social Security and raise payroll taxes. The vote was 51 to 44 with Thurmond and Goldwater opposing. A separate bill boosting federal grants for elderly medical bills passed 91 to 2. Nixon backed a GOP health insurance plan that failed 67 to 28 with no Democratic support.

Body of Vincent Blaney Found in Atlantic Ocean

Philadelphia police identified a decomposed body fished from the Atlantic as Vincent Blaney, a missing prosecution witness in a Pottsville burglary case. The man had been shot, beaten, and weighted with a 25 pound weight while chained with padlocks. The body showed three weeks in water and extensive mutilation. Blaney had vanished about three weeks earlier while facing charges alongside others for a $375,000 jewelry and cash theft from John Rich in Pottsville.

Powers' Wife and Parents Leave USSR for U S

Francis Gary Powers' parents arrived in Copenhagen from Moscow with guarded hope of seeing their son, jailed in the USSR for 10 years on espionage charges. Oliver W. Powers and his wife Ida, from Pound Virginia, spoke briefly, while Powers' wife Barbara remained in Moscow seeking a meeting with Premier Khrushchev.

Corry Man 65 Arrested After Sickle Chase

A 65 year old Corry man, Jack Sawyer of 3 Brook Street, was arrested after allegedly chasing Arland Burrows of 103 Brook Street with a sickle. Police followed the report from Mrs. Burrous and Sawyer was released on 250 bond and ordered to appear at 4 p.m. tomorrow in Alderman Porter Auer’s office.

Erie Boy Fatally Injured in One Car Crash

An Erie teenager, 18 year old John Bonney, died after a one car crash in Fairview Township. Police said the driver died about three hours after the crash at Hamet Hospital. Passenger Kevin Mead, 19, of Erie, is in fair condition. The car went out of control struck a wall and rolled over multiple times, both youths were thrown from the vehicle.
