Senate Defeat for Callup Plan in Defense Bill Debate
A faction of Democrats seeks to cut more than 500 million from the defense bill amid a Senate clash over mobilizing citizen-soldier reservists. Proposals by McGovern and allies aim to limit or modify active-duty service for reservists while safeguarding veterans from prior wars. The Russell Saltonstall amendment envisions up to 24 consecutive months of active service for reservists, with exemptions for those who already served in WWII or Korea, but faces strong opposition and has mixed prospects.

Local Elks seek used watches for troops in South Viet Nam
The Elks Lodge committee led by James L. Allyn asks residents to donate good used watches needing minor repair. Submit watches or servicemen names to the committee or any member.
