The county's allocation for elderly programs run by the Greater Erie Community Action Committee will total $1,129,785.82 for 1977, up from $1,027,078 this year. Court Okays Oil Leases In Atlantic Is New York
The New York based Interior Department won a last minute appeals court decision clearing the way for the first oil and gas lease sale in the Atlantic Ocean. Bids will be sealed for 876 750 acres 60 miles south of New York and 45 to 90 miles off Delaware Maryland New Jersey and Virginia. The Baltimore Canyon Trough area could hold up to 1.4 billion barrels of oil and 944 trillion cubic feet of gas worth up to 31 billion. The sale may bring as much as 600 million and followed a circuit court ruling over a district judge injunction delaying the project. The government argued delays threaten energy independence from foreign oil.
