Committee members named include G R Acker Scranton Poor Board William N Savin Wellsboro and Fred Holman Schaystall County Poor Commissioner.

City council formally moves to place a referendum on Sunday movies in Corry on the November ballot. City Solicitor Walter J. H. Scott explains that if voters do not approve, amusement venues must cease Sunday programs until such approval is given. Rex theatre manager John A. Blatt urged the measure at a special meeting. The council will petition Erie County commissioners to include the question in the November balloting.

Harrisburg August 17 The Public Service Commission announces the appointment of Wendell Blanning of Williamstown as secretary succeeding the late Louis Tevell. Branning formerly directed the bureau of public convenience and will be paid $6,000 annually with W C Solly named to direct the bureau. Tevell died earlier this week in Philadelphia. Blanning, a 1912 Dickinson College graduate, served as assistant counsel from 1924 to 1928 and led the Public Service Bureau from 1931 becoming a licensed attorney in 1916 under Judge William M Hargis Harrisburg.
