Why So Few Lead Poisoning Cases in Pittsburgh Area
In Allegheny County over 15 years only 20 to 35 lead poisoning cases have been reported with no resident deaths in more than a decade. A Blood test program using finger pricks surveys over 2,000 children to find why Pittsburgh has unusually low incidence. Researchers consider factors from natural substances in water to iron salts and urban conditions as possible explanations.
