Mother Who Drugged Two Babies Goes Into Hiding

In Cleveland Ohio, Lillian Fratantean 24 admitted drugging two infants with barbiturates. Bernadette 3 and Venita 5 remain at Mount Sinai Hospital under observation while doctors assess any lasting harm. Police report a man saw her mixing substances in a hospital hall. The mother was freed on a $1,000 bond to face juvenile court.

Northwest Street Reclassified After 74 Years of Use

Corry City Council passed Bill 951 amending the original ordinance to unordain Northwest Street from West Main to West Pleasant. Residents may still use the right of way to access their properties, and Berk hous may install a barrier to prevent runoff during sharp turns onto West Pleasant.

Cite Boys For Slaying 36 Dogs

Utica area juveniles, ages 14 and 15, were taken into custody by State Police for killing 46 dogs confined in kennels on neighbor Werner Schumann’s property. The youths used a .22 rifle, killing 11 dogs on Thursday and 25 on Saturday, some of which were valuable breeds like fox hounds and St Bernards. They smashed a jeep’s windows and headlights and pushed it into a pond, leaving wounded dogs behind. They will be cited for juvenile court.

Chutst Plunges Twenty Miles In Record Drop

Air Force Captain Joseph Kittnger made a parachute jump from 102,200 feet over the New Mexico desert. Altitude not listed as official. may have been 103,000 feet. He opened his chute at 17,500 feet after a 4 minute 38 second fall. Toll descent lasted 13 minutes 8 seconds. The 102,200 feet set a record for manned balloon flight in an open gondola.

Kids Event Judges Named For Sidewalk Bazaar Daze Parade

At a Chamber of Commerce Promotion Committee meeting this morning judges were announced for the kids bike and pet parade and a first aid station was revealed. Miss Ann Baress will emarshal the parade and register participants as it forms at 7 p.m. Saturday. The parade will travel through city streets ending at Loblaw’s parking lot where prizes will be awarded. Judges Howard J. Sheen, Robert Allyn and Robert Tunnell Sr. were named. Corry Chapter American Red Cross will run a first aid station on North Center Street near Clinton Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. under Philip Segal, with a doctor on standby. The station will also serve as a lost-child clearinghouse.

Billboard Back Sparks City Council Debate on Action

Elmo Smith, 40, a restabout and twice paroled sex offender, faces trial in Adams County for the rape and murder of seven year old Maryann Mitchell. The case was moved from Montgomery to Gettysburg by the State Supreme Court over venue concerns. Man Arrested After Assault Charge In Beaver County

Thomas Metfen, 30, of Brighton Township, surrendered in East Liverpool Ohio after a six day manhunt by Pennsylvania State Police and Ohio authorities for allegedly assaulting a seven year old girl. The arrest followed a joint hunt by local, state and county officers.
