Definite list of candidates for city posts ahead of filing deadline

Reports from the county commissioners indicate a rush to file nominating papers for the city council and school board positions. A tall list of candidates appeared, with many still undecided, and filing closes at 9 o clock this afternoon.

Crossing Crash Victims Show Improvement

Glover and his daughter Shirley of Titusville remain hospitalized after a crash at China City. Glover shows progress with multiple fractures, while Shirley's condition is improving slowly and pneumonia risk is noted. Vail Promoted to Cincinnati Post

Cory Vail, formerly division freight agent at Meadville, is promoted to general freight agent in Cincinnati. He will be succeeded at Meadville by J M Shawhiil of Olean. Vail was well known in Corry and to Erie Railroad patrons for his work with the system.

City Plans Graveling of East Columbus Avenue

A Perry Motor Club delegation urged Embert City Council to spend upwards of 3000 to gravel and repair East Columbus Avenue for fall and spring use. The council tentatively allocated funds and, with Streets Superintendent Leach and Commissioner Tarrington, planned a gravel project and possible rock foundation to fix holes and improve the road ahead of winter.

Resurfacing Planned for Stretches Near Tracks

The city orders immediate bids for resurfacing the pavement between the Pennsylvania and Erie Railroad tracks at the passenger station as part of the North Court Street improvement. Funds are available to finance the project and work is set to begin late this week or early next week with equipment shipments and contractors preparing crews.

Spring Creek Resident Dead After Week’s Illness

Eber Way, a well known Spring Creek resident, died at the home of Mrs. Cor a Lamona after a weeklong illness. He had lived in Spring Creek for many years and was widely respected. Funeral services are set for Wednesday afternoon at 2 o clock at Mrs. Lamona’s home, with interment in Spring Creek Cemetery.

Defense Counsel Opens Sacco Vanzetti Appeal Before Supreme Court

Henry Minott reports from Boston that Sacco and Vanzetti defense attorneys argued at the Massachusetts Supreme Court seeking relief on denials of a writ of error and motions for a new trial. Arthur Hill, chief counsel, traced the case history and attacked Judge Thayer and Hall rulings while presenting newly discovered evidence related to the firearms expert Proctor and Sacco’s cap identification.

Spicer Buys Gould Greenhouse in Corry

Harry Spicer completes purchase of the Gould Greenhouse on Concord Street. He takes immediate possession with Mrs. Kate Gould assisting in operation. Gould, longtime floral business owner, retires after years in Corry. Spicer, a well known local resident, plans expansion of the greenhouse facilities.

Big Flood Devastates Kansas Towns Across State

United Press reports a severe flood sent mud water through a dozen Kansas cities daily, threatening millions in damage. Rain worsened conditions as farmers evacuated lowlands and crops, especially corn, were ruined while livestock losses mounted from raging streams.

City council awards painting contracts and approves projects

The City Council awarded painting contracts for the Municipal and Fire Department buildings to Lanston and Dickinson and Lammers with bids of 190 and 70 respectively. A gas station permit on East South Street was granted and street intersection repairs along with dump cleanup concerns were referred to appropriate officials. An investigation into a fire dam repair and further paving complaints were noted before adjournment.

Coldest August 16th on Record in Pittsburgh Area

The morning low reached 43 degrees marking an unusually cold August 16th for western Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh, which reported its coldest such date on record at about seven o clock.

Bomb wrecks Dorchester home of juror. family escapes unharmed

A dynamite bomb destroyed the front of 463 Pleneant Street in Dorchester, injuring none of juror Lewis McHardy’s family who were sleeping upstairs. Police say the device was hidden under the porch. neighbors heard the blast and debris filled the home. John McHardy.

Bury Gary in Old Home Town

The body of Judge Gary will be returned to Wheaton for burial in a mausoleum near the road leading out of town. The body sails from New York on the Twentieth Century Limited and travels by funeral train from Chicago to Wheaton on Thursday. Judge Gary, first mayor of Wheaton and later county judge of DuPage, earned the name "Judge Gary."
