Ways And Means Okays Tax Cut With Mini Deduction Boost

The Ways and Means Committee approved a corporate tax rate cut aimed at small business along with a new minimum standard deduction for low income taxpayers. The plan raises the deduction up to 1000 for couples and adds 300 plus 100 per dependent for filers, potentially removing 1.5 million low earners from taxation and saving about 310 million annually. A two step reduction would move normal tax to 22 percent with 28 percent surtax, then total 49 percent next year. Dividend taxation remains under discussion with current exclusions and credits guiding the reform.
