Congress must adjourn before Oct 1 on tax and aid bills
The article notes Congress could adjourn by October 1 if the 1951 tax bill, foreign aid authorization, and regular appropriation bills are acted on. Senate leaders expect no back replay until January and expect no revision of price controls or livestock quotas, with civil rights left untouched until near the 1952 election. It highlights the draft extension framework for universal military training provided by the president’s June 19 draft extender suggestion.

System Aid Delayed by Health Legislation Condition
A measure to trigger selective service changes only after Congress approves broad health and welfare safeguards for trainees stands as a prerequisite. The National Security Training Commission, confirmed last June, must report by October, with armed services committees to act within 45 days of those findings. The plan, once aimed to finalize in 1951, now stalls amid Korean War pressures and partisan delay.
