Growth in Blue Cross in Western Pennsylvania Surges
Growth in Blue Cross hospitalization enrollment in Western Pennsylvania outpaced all prior periods during the first half of 1946. Abraham Oseroff, vice president, reported 18,970 new members joined, bringing total Blue Cross subscribers and families to 970,562 across 29 counties. Hospital payments for Blue Cross care in the period reached 2,554,446.76 dollars, up more than 400,000 dollars from the previous year. Since its start, the association has paid 20,305,607.07 dollars for hospital care. The expansion reflects non profit prepaid care for workers and families and new non group enrollment for self employed and those not employed, enabling anyone 65 or under in Western Pennsylvania to obtain hospitalization benefits.
