British Canadian and French forces renewed assaults on Lens positions and other fronts. Canadian troops attacked strongpoints near Honaidhind, forcing German withdrawals, while British and French advance along Dixmude and surrounding sectors faced heavy bombardment and counterattacks. The local draft board reported examinations proceeding with 40 of 240 men deferred or exempt, and others awaiting medical reviews.
Two men died when a nitro glycerin container exploded during railway bridge preparations near Warren. Victims Allen, 62, and Daniel Droke, 18, were killed instantly. others injured included Folervon, Sai Strov, Low Brahel, and Kidward Mranch.

Warren August 1 United Press reports Waled Kirke Kirkpatrick an employee at the Clarendon Refinery was severely burned when a filter he was working on failed. He suffered burns to the head and shoulders and was rushed to Warren Hospital. He is a brother of George Kirkpatrick involved in a recent gas engine accident near Tusar Chirendon months ago.
Mrs. M R Davis died last night at about seven at the family home on Smith and N Canter streets after a period of declining health. She leaves her husband M J Davis and son Melvin M Davis. A Christian Science minister will conduct funeral services at the home tomorrow afternoon at two, with interment at Mine Grove Cemetery.

Mrs Juno Arnold longtime resident of this city died at her West Wayne street home Monday evening about nine oclock after long illness. Survived by daughter Mrs Sarah GaMont and others. Funeral services Thursday afternoon at 2:30 from the residence, with interment at the local Grave Cemetery.
