Report For CAHS Opening Grid Drills

Cory area high school holds opening football drills with about 70 hopefuls under Coach Lou Hanna. At least eight lettermen from last year’s undefeated Section II champions return to lead the quest for starting spots ahead of September 14 against Warren. Players named include Dave Yanney Emmit Young Bob Nichols Don Kauer John Mowrey Lee Williams Ernie Vanssens and John Roberts. Changes in the 1957 lineup are possible with Kavet moving to fullback and Nichols likely switching to fullback after proving able in junior varsity play. Freshmen and sophomores show promise, with about 15 freshmen invited to the JV program and potential early debuts for some tenth graders. Positions remain broadly open and the starting lineup may not be settled until Labor Day. Scrimmages are planned with Eric’s East and Tech schools, with one more open date likely filled by a WEIAL team.
