Pittsburgh prosecutors filed charges of conspiracy to cheat and defraud Allegheny County against Justice of the Peace Alfred J. Ackerman and Deputy Constable B. Bolden. Informations allege they falsely certified a hearing and collected court costs while swearing the costs were for Ben P. Chass’s Pittsburgh hearing.
Pittsburgh mayor Lawrence states he has no desire to be the Democratic nominee for governor of Pennsylvania in 1954 and rejects any federal appointment. He says he may seek re election in Pittsburgh but has not yet decided.
New York reports wholesale food prices rose again with the Buy & Bradstreet index climbing to a record high for mid December. The index shows meats and staples priced above year ago levels, with July 1948 a prior peak and April 22 notable for another jump.

Guy E. Rogers, longtime Corry plumber and businessman, died at 8:25 am in Corry Memorial Hospital at age 70. Born March 24, 1989 in Corry, he built Rogers Plumbing Shop and later sold the business in 2060. Survived by wife Blble Rogers, brothers Earl and Mark Rogers, and brother-in-law B E Hawkins. Funeral arrangements are pending at Bar Keating Finneral House with service Friday and burial at Pine Grove Cemetery.

They discuss a fund drive, private partners for skating facilities, and a district-wide pool study while surveying youth needs after school opens. The group includes Walter Roks and others at a Public Library session.
About 1 000 Northwestern Rural Cooperative customers in the Corry district will lose power tomorrow as crews repair the Elgin sub station after Sunday night damage. Power will be off in four one half hour blocks, while transformers are drained and oil filtered due to water contamination causing transformer burn. The process may extend into Friday.
Erie residents faced a day without transportation after 265 Erie Coach Co workers, members of the AFL Amalgamated Association, walked out seeking an 25-cent hourly pay raise and better conditions. Mrs Earle Dennison a 54 year old nurse awaiting murder trial for arsenic poisonings in two young girls slashed her wrist with a razor at Tutwiler Prison for Women. She slipped the blade from under her bed cover and bled significantly before guards discovered the self inflicted wound. The sheriff said the trial likely would be delayed while a transfusion was arranged and the prison physician described her condition as not serious but weak. Separately Secretary Sawyer said a price survey will be conducted to determine real inflation trends and curb unfounded forecasts.

A Warren, Pennsylvania sailor Gerald L. Landers was charged with first degree criminal assault after a 20-year-old woman, mother of two, was beaten and raped near Tarvestown General Hospital. The incident occurred as Landers, hitchhiking from Warren to Frewsburg, allegedly forced entry, assaulted the woman, and abducted her from a house. Landers faced arraignment later that day.

The government also announced progressive income tax rules raising rates on higher incomes and named a 195% threshold for the new tax regime.
A Naval Court of Inquiry found Lt. Cmdr W. J. Tierney solely responsible for the April 26 collision between the carrier Wasp and destroyer Hobson about 700 miles west of the Azores. Of 178 aboard, all others were cleared. the Wasp limped to New York with heavy damage.
David Robert Morton 9 died after 14 months in a coma from head injuries believed to be caused by a hit and run. He was found unconscious on June 1, 1951, and after months at St. Vincent's Hospital was taken home to his vigil by parents Mr and Mrs Burton Morton. A sister and two brothers survive.
The Bull Brothers theatre corporation opens a new drive in theater six miles west of Corry on Raule Avenue. The facility features a 40 by 40 foot screen and RCA sound equipment with 409 inch speakers. Grand opening includes a double feature The Thief of Damascus and Brave Warrior and a special lighting effect over the parking area. Builders listed include A Zalunesk and Son and TAGM electrical shop.
City police issued three summonses for reckless driving. Harold Ghase of 1234 West Main, Arthur Ireland of Columbus, and Edward Gibbs of Corry RD were cited after a patrol car saw one driver swerve to pass two cars and speed then drift onto West Washington. Gibbs reportedly sideswiped a parked car at East Main, with damages totaling $200 to Gibbs' car and $100 to Ayers' vehicle.
Lt Gov Sherwood Dixon won the Democratic nomination to seek Stevenson’s gubernatorial seat in November, facing Republican William G Stratton after edging out Edward J Barrett by a slim margin.
