Trapped 24 Hours Second Cave-In Delays Rescue at Well
In Lenore West Virginia 15 year old Leonard Boyce remained trapped as a second cave-in about 6 pm buried him up to his chest again. Rescue workers overran attempts with heavy earth moving gear and a trench was dug to free him except for a leg and foot when rock collapsed anew. Sheriff Steve Adkins said the operation might take four more hours as rocks and dirt cleared around the boy. A wooden hood protected his head while a physician was summoned as exhaustion neared. He pleaded from 14 feet underground to not stop. He was fed hot chocolate through a rubber tube as the lid shivered through the night near Paraley's Bottom in a house yard owned by Willard Howell.
