Erie area eyed for 1.5 million fish commission funding
Erie County is forecast to receive about 1.55 million dollars from the 1974 Pennsylvania Fish Commission budget for three local projects over the next year. William O. Hill Jr says at least 1.1 million will shift from Elk Creek Marina construction to add 100 boat berths at Walnut Creek Access Area Fairview. An extra 550,000 is slated for two new projects in Erie County: about 400,000 for a Fish Rearing Station at Girard and 150,000 to build a hatchery and garage at the Corry Fish Hatchery. The commission will also commit 1.2 million to expanding Benner Spring Hatchery in Centre County and 350,000 for Lower Spring Creek Hatchery development. Walnut Creek and Benner Spring projects have federal Project 500 backing. Continuous development and related work are noted in minutes of a June meeting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
