A board of inquiry finds Lewisburg federal penitentiary in Pennsylvania among the nation’s most dangerous facilities with violent young inmates and a demoralized guard force. Eight inmates were killed by fellow prisoners in two years, and the prison reportedly has the nation’s highest murder rate among federal prisons. Kim Thompson, a teacher, will take a year sabbatical at no district cost to work in local industry and avoid the go tech proficiency test.
