Corry High School Girl Drowns at Willows Bridge
Roseann Bolan a Corry Area High School junior died after drowning in Brokenstraw Creek at the Willows bridge while swimming with a friend. State Police will investigate. Her death follows prior drownings at the Willows. She is survived by parents Dorothy and John Bolan, a sister, and grandparents. Requiem services and burial planned with St. Thomas Church rites.

In a private Democratic vote the Pennsylvania House rejected both 2.3 percent and lower income tax options as too weak to fund schools. A speeding rental car skidded off Route 77 in Spartansburg striking a house owned by Mrs. Virginia Wills. Two people were injured and total damage was estimated at 6100. Driver dispute involved Gerald Burrows and Wes Rabico. Burrows admitted to hospital with possible rib injuries. Rabico treated and released.

Desertion Rate in Vietnam Hits WWII Peak Level
U S Army desertion diminished combat role yet climbs to the wartime high. In the first 10 months of fiscal 1971 the number of desertions rose to 68 449 or about 4 percent of a combat division. April 1971 rate stood at 62.6 per 1000 men, compared with 52.3 in all of 1970. Marines show slight decline from 59.6 to 56.1 per 1000. Most deserters are returned or arrested on lesser AWOL charges.
