Enlistments in Company A Not Developing
An appeal for recruitment is issued for the reorganized Pennsylvania National Guard unit Company A. The goal is to enlist 40 men by August to gain federal recognition. Unit members would receive federal pay during drills and summer field training. A recruiting office will operate weekly at the state armory from 7 to 9 30 PM except Tuesdays, with extended hours to boost enlistments. The effort relies on strong community support across Pennsylvania to meet quotas. The piece ends with a note on a naval term from Ships magazine about the bitter end and a ship anchor.

Steps for veterans to claim terminal leave pay authorized by law
President Truman signed legislation providing about 2.7 billion dollars in cash and five year bonds to 15 million former service members. Discharged veterans may claim accrued leave up to 120 days between 1939 and 1946, while those on active duty receive cash or bonds for days beyond 60. Applicants obtain a form, swear to statements before a notary, attach discharge certificates, and submit to the proper military paying officer. Payment reflects pay rates at discharge and includes extra allowances. bonds mature five years after final separation and cannot be pledged as collateral. A one year deadline applies for applications.
