Escapees Hold Hostage in Tucker three hours before surrender
Two escaped prisoners held a frightened dental receptionist, Martha Ann Mobley, 20, hostage for nearly three hours on Interstate 85 near the DeKalb Gwinnett line. The man with the gun, James S. Lowe, 23, threatened to kill the woman or his fellow escapee, Bobby Joel Jerry Yarbrough, 23, as FBI and state officers negotiated their surrender after a high speed pursuit. Police blocked traffic, and Lowe finally gave up after assurances of minor concessions and talks with FBI agent Richard Davis.

Township officials move to gather deeds and hire a solicitor as the state pushes a 3,300 foot creek clearance from northwest of the Harold Dougherty farm to upstream of Mrs. Morris McIntyre property. Property owners oppose limiting the project to 5,300 feet and demand broader clearing toward Corry, risking costs and future waterBacking. The state notes no township cost if the project goes ahead but maintenance remains with the township.
