Philadelphia May Get Federal Food Stamp System
The Associated Press reports extension of the federal food stamp system to Philadelphia could bring over half of Pennsylvania relief recipients under the plan. Officials note a $200,000 revolving fund is needed per locality, with Philadelphia approving and Washington ratification pending. The plan uses orange stamps for cash and free half values, blue stamps for surplus commodities. Food stamp offices opened in Scranton, and systems already run county-wide in Allegheny and Allentown Bethlehem regions.
