Details of the crash were not available at press time. LeBoeuf Paving Company of Union City, owners of the truck, said damages would exceed 2500 dollars.
A dynamite truck exploded beside a burning Gerretson Building Supply Co. in Roseburg Oregon at 1 20 a m causing a 50 by 20 foot crater and fire that leveled six blocks of warehouses and damaged nearby buildings. At least eight people died and 52 were hospitalized. The driver George Rutherford from Chehalis Washington survived with injuries. The National Guard was called to deter looting as downtown shops and the Umpqua Hotel faced extensive damage.
A one year old boy’s first business venture ends with a warning, parole, and seizure of thirty dollars in marijuana seed. He told Juvenile Court Judge French Clements he planned to ship seed from California and plant it along Pigeon Creek to grow and sell, but his father alerted police after receiving the seed and having it identified.
Harrisburg AP report notes the 1958 real estate value study by the State Tax Equalization Board. About 2,000 of more than 2,300 districts face some loss in state school aid for 1960-61, with some reductions up to 40 or 50 percent. The board uses county lists and sale samples to project district market values.
Eight people including the pregnant wife of Col. Gabreski and three children were saved after two cars collided and caught fire nine miles south of Wilmington on U S 17. Construction workers used a wrecker to pry apart the flames and free the trapped occupants. Mrs Gabreski, 34, was admitted with a minor knee cut and held for observation. others suffered minor injuries.
Rosemarie Penny Bjorkland known as Penny faces life in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of a four year old girl. Judge Phitie Mill called the case without a jury and described the killing as wanton and willful. Bjorkland testified the victim was shot for target practice while a gardener named August Norry was involved. She is ordered to Corona State Prison for Women.
Beaver Area High School Beavers season tickets go on sale Monday at 3 p.m. at the Ritz Restaurant with seating boards on display there first night and half later at Jansen's Drugstore. Tickets cost 1 plus handling or 325 for season pass saving 60 cents on all three home games, which include Warren on Sept 11, Franklin on Oct 2, and Bradford on Oct 9.
A 63 year old Union City man DeForest Hart died at 12 05 am today from injuries suffered in a two car crash west of Union City. Hart was driving west on Route 97 and turned left onto Wheeler Hill road when he pulled in front of Robert Brace 20 of Waterford who hit Hart nearly head on. Passengers Donald Hill 33 and Melvin Chaney 29 of Waterford were treated at Stem Memorial Hospital for injuries. Brace sustained a cut leg while Hart car damage was about 176 dollars and Brace car 850 dollars for total 1025 dollars.
Cape Canaveral launched a Thor Able rocket carrying a 142 pound paddlewheel satellite explorer six era aiming for a highly elliptical orbit up to 23000 miles and 160 miles high. If orbit established the probe would test solar paddle vanes for power and study Earth radiation belts for future deep space missions.

Five youths were arrested on Spring Street after attempting to force entry at Roxanne Beauty Shop. They admitted planning visits with a man named Joe Reese from Spartansburg, were jailed, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, and fined totals including a special $26 fine for refuse to stop when warned.
Klompen Dancers from Clymer will appear as top attraction at Bazaar Daze on August 16 at the corner of North Center and West Washington. The event includes two $100 prizes drawn that night, plus two cash clown prizes of 25 and 15 dollars for costume wearers roaming downtown and present at the Saturday prize drawing.

Sandra Vinson secured a 20 cent loan at Tupelo Peoples Bank to fund a cooling swim on a hot day. The promissory note sets repayment in cents weekly from her allowance. John E. Vinson, her father, said she first asked him before seeking the bank loan and recalls hearing her speak with the banker on the phone.
Botulism from home canned beets claimed the lives of Kenneth Nelson and two other relatives in TOAHO FALLS IAHAO. Wanda Nelson, 15, and Aaron Gruwell, 74, died after the jar incident. Naomi Nelson, 41, remained in critical condition with some improvement. Lavlela Gruwell and Martha Nelson were reported improving.
Sun Oil Co. boosted wholesale Blue Sunoco gasoline by eight tenths of a cent. Eastern Pennsylvania prices rose to 16.1 cents per gallon, with the new minimum 28.9 cents. Western Pennsylvaniaprices climbed to 16.9 cents per gallon, minimum 20.9 cents.
An auto wreck in Homestead early today killed driver Richard Cluck, 40, of Homestead Park. He was alone in the car.
Erie worker Wilson Graves, 40, died in Si Vist Rent Hospital after a scrap yard incident at Amerenn Tow and Supply Co. A 1 inch bus cylinder exploded while workers used jet shears to cut it open. One brass fitting flew 150 feet, another struck Graves in the abdomen. Doctors treated him for about two hours but he died. a verdict of accidental death is expected.
A powerful mid Pacific hurricane named Dot pummeled Kuyat Island causing widespread destruction. Homes leveled, power and communications knocked out, water supplies cut, and sugar and pineapple plantations disrupted as the storm moved north toward the open sea. The Weather Bureau reported the worst is over by daybreak and warned recovery would be hampered by damaged infrastructure on the 24,000 inhabitant island.
President Eisenhower called for a new strong law to end racketeering in labor management relations as Congress debates the labor bill. He backed a substitute sponsored by Rep. Landrum and Rep. Griffin as a realistic start. AFL CIO President Meany called Eisenhower's backed bill a blunder harming unions while backing a rival effort aimed at purging crooks rather than reforming unions.
About 150 police dispersed a crowd of more than 3000 near a West Side apartment building reported sold for occupancy by Negro families. No Negro families lived in the block. Thirteen were arrested for disobeying orders. A 24 man guard was set to patrol. Windows were broken and bottles thrown at the building.
Robert Pirl, 22, of Mill Run, pleaded guilty to a mail fraud charge in U S District Court and was placed on three years probation after taking out an October 10 1958 life policy on his brother Raymond and filing a January claim alleging his brother had died. Postal inspectors disclosed the scheme. The case underscores ongoing enforcement actions against insurance fraud.
