News from Calampagnole reports five men still missing after attempts to rescue them from a collapsed building fail. Officials say efforts are hindered by dangerous conditions and the time already elapsed since the incident.
Jamestown police questioned a tipsy 15-year-old yesterday leading to the arrest of five suspects in a weekend burglary at Corkscrew Liquor Store. Two 16-year-olds Lloyd C. Wetherby and Craig W. Dirling were charged with third-degree burglary. The Lipsy youth and two other 15-year-olds were jailed for family court. Five suspects allegedly entered through a rear window and passed whiskey among them. Three bottles recovered so far.
Actress Bette Davis was checked into a Laguna Beach hospital for a physical and was later described by a doctor as in good health. The report notes she was alone during the visit and did not indicate any illness.

Robbery suspect Hoke Jr faces armed robbery and assault charges after a gun battle with Erie and Millcreek police. He was arraigned at Hamot Hospital and will be formally charged as his attorney Manu Rossiter attends. A separate arraignment occurred for burglary and attempted killing charges with hearings to be set upon his release. The report notes his innocent plea and hospital treatment for minor bullet wounds. In a separate item Charles F. Hess will become director of the State Soil and Water Conservation Commission, earning 9923 a year, succeeding David Unger.
