Police Round Up Vandals In City Airport And Ajax Works

City police say they rounded up two gangs of youths responsible for vandalism at Lawrence Airport and the Ajax Tron Works warehouse. Three juveniles aged 11 and 14 admitted breaking airport windows and a gasoline pump, as parents accompany them for restitution talks. UAW officials rejected a proposed 15 percent pay rise after only half of the shop's workers voted 03 to 2 against the deal. The rejection followed a 24 hour heated meeting as the International CIO unit acted to safeguard jobs.

City police and dog license agents patrolled streets all day chasing howling packs. Only twelve canines were caught as owners could not be located. Unowned dogs found loose were killed. owners, if identified, faced summons and a fine.

Washington dismissed Communist China’s double rejection of American protest notes over the July 23 airliner attack that killed three Americans and injured three. The United States demanded punishment and compensation, noting British ownership of the plane did not absolve Red China of responsibility. Three Auto Wrecks Leave Three Hurt In Corry Area

Two auto accidents in the Corry district last night sent three persons to Stem Memorial Hospital at Union City. Marvin E. Gunner and Nelson H. Francis, both severely injured with fractured ribs, and Mrs. B. A. Shreve suffered a knee laceration and facial bruises. Gunner, driving a panel truck, failed to pass a slowing vehicle on Route 97 west of Waterford, skidding into a Francia car and causing a rollover. Vehicle damage was estimated at 500 dollars. A second collision at White's Corners east of Columbus involved M. J. Piccirillo and Ray Little, with each car damaged about 200 dollars.

Arm trapped in car window leads to fracas near Center street

Don Eisenbarth of Pittsburgh sustained a lacerated arm when a rear car window shattered during a dispute with driver Paul Tinko of Corry. Eisenbarth and Ronald Dalezgowski of Carnegie were in the city helping installs when tensions rose and police took no action after he and Dalezgowski planned to settle the damage.

Polio Case Reported in New Kensington Area

In New Kensington area of Pennsylvania a 13th polio case was reported while gamma globulin inoculations were given to about 40 people, mostly children, after a local case the previous month. The latest patient is 10-year-old Carol Lee Farina. A zinc supply had been shipped from Harrisburg to Westmoreland County.

Distillery Fire Cleanup Under Way After Devastating Blaze

In Pekin Illinois a massive blaze at American Distilling Co. burned for 42 hours, destroying four buildings and damaging three others while sparing key facilities. The fire killed six workers and injured 38 as costs reach tens of millions. Clean up and near full production restart planned for Monday. Russell Brown of Greenwich Cohn Co. says insurance covers the loss. Wind aided efforts to save the 25 million dollar plant. About 600 workers to return as operations resume. The fire likely began by lightning during a thunderstorm Wednesday morning. Prospector Sealed for Murder in Quebec Slayings

Wilber Coffin, a 43 year old Gaspe prospector, was sentenced to hang on November 26 for the murder of Finchard Lindsey, one of three Pennsylvania hunters slain last summer in the Ganpe Peninsula. The verdict came in 34 minutes with both sides presenting that Coffin murdered the 17 year old amid claims robbery motivated the crime.

Hobart M. Hall Elected President of California Typographical Conference

Hobart M Hall a former Corry resident and Journal employee has been elected president of the California Typographical Conference which covers California and Nevada. Hall moved to California in 1997 and has long been active in labor circles there. He rose to national prominence in 1982 on the committee on laws and was named national committeeman in 1983. The new president will attend the International convention opening August 1 in St Paul Minnesota with delegates from the United States and Canada.

Sanity Study Begins On Moon In Warren County

A sanity commission started a lengthy study of Norman W. Moon, convicted of first degree murder, to assess his mental condition. The panel includes Dr. Tarnel, Dr. Waltera, and A. Pierson Eaton.
