Mayor Samuel A Strath expressed support in an open meeting, noting city owned property near Municipal Stadium as a potential site and awaiting council and education board actions. A Rotary Club talk by James C Cain urged pools to boost public health with a survey showing only 40 percent of area residents swam at playgrounds this summer.

New Record In Ore Movement
Erie July ore movement set an all time high but fell short by about half a million tons of the predicted volume. Record 19 588 814 gross tons moved on the lakes this July, first month of the year to show growth over a year ago. Fogs and muggy weather near Sault Ste Marie blamed for the shortfall and the year to date totals show 28 382 704 gross tons, 18.95 percent behind 1942. With nine weeks left in the first half, a stronger second half is needed to reach the year end goal of 68 million tons.
