Salaried U S Steel Workers Get Slash

Cleveland August 5 reductions ranging from 10 to 12 per cent will affect salaried employees of United States Steel Corp starting August 15. The dividend rate was cut from 7 to 4 per year. Salaried earners from 1800 to 5000 receive 10 per cent, 9000 to 20000 take 12 per cent, and over 10000 face 1 per cent. Wage earners not affected. The last salary cut was in 1921 with two 10 per cent reductions.

Pinchot Cancels Portland Trip to Aid Miners

Governor Gifford Pinchot cancels a planned Portland visit to speak at the Alaska-Yukon Sourdoughs reunion, saying he must stay in Pennsylvania to feed starving western coal miners.
