New Store Tax Now Effective in Pennsylvania
Harrisburg August 4 Owners of theatres and retail stores must file permit applications under the 1937 chain store act tonight or face prosecution. State Revenue Secretary J Grifith Boardman warned that permits are required and unpermitted operations would be a misdemeanor with a 50 dollar daily penalty. Provisions allow a 24 hour extension for mailed applications reaching the division. The act imposes taxes from 19 to 900 dollars per establishment and extra funds may boost fourth class district school salaries from 809 to 1000 dollars annually.
