Police investigate the discovery of an almost fully developed infant’s body at the Erie sewage treatment plant. The corpse was found by David Godlewski as it emerged from the grit collector. Authorities say it likely arrived via a storm sewer. no solid leads yet.
Millcreek Township advertises for four compactor trucks to consider municipal refuse collection. Supervisor Paul Martin says the sole bid is high and the township may run the service if trucks are affordable, potentially saving compared with a private hauler. Bids open August 15 with a planned five day schedule if approved.

Attendees came from Rochester Merley Skinner Irvine Pa Wrightsville Pa Bear Lake and Sherman with many friends and relatives from Corry and Columbus nearby.
Two time killer James D French who has sought immediate execution appears set to receive it a week from Wednesday after the State Court of Criminal Appeals refused a new review and dismissed his court appointed lawyer at French's request. His parents in Huntington West Virginia said they will not seek to save him.
