Girard Tannery May Close As Parley Fails
Erie August faces a possible shutdown of the Girard Tannery, owned by Gunnison brothers, as union interests fail to reach a closed shop agreement after negotiations with a strikers’ committee. The plant employs 80 men and may move or close if business remains bad. No transfer to another city is planned, say officials. A.P. of L. workers' strike began last Wednesday, with ongoing picketing of nonunion workers. Both sides incur losses from the shutdown.
