FBI phone directory kept secret in long battle

WASHINGTON AP One of the FBI s best kept secrets is its telephone directory. Almost no one outside the bureau has it and even the attorney general does not. The fight over FOIA access has pitted reporters against FBI officials who argue that public disclosure could hinder investigations. Levy ordered one page released, revealing numbers for FBI Director Kelley s office and 10 of 13 divisions, while noting the directory itself remains sensitive. The controversy highlights tension between transparency and national security.
