Poolroom owner released on bail after Erie shooting
Erie poolroom owner William Douglas faced charges of murder and three assaults after a shooting inside his establishment left one man dead and several injured. Douglas, 34, appeared before Alderman Samuel Y. Rossiter who bound him over to the grand jury with bail set at 1000, while two city officers testified about events.

John Joseph Medallis, 11, of Scranton, died after a 22 caliber rifle discharged while his brothers Charles 14 and Robert 7 were in a boat on Lake Cajhaw. Knickerbocker 45, also of Scranton, was present. Police and coroner ruled the death accidental.

About 2,000 United Steelworkers walked out of seven plants in seven counties, plus 550 at Warren and Titusville plants of Struthers Well Corp. and 100 at Union Electric Steel Corp. in Carnegie. At the Ashtabula County Outdoor Club grounds three youths captured two suspected gas thieves by a trap described as jungle style. The pair, Herbert Deluna Prine and John Jude Jr, were arrested after a midnight encounter with James Dunne Jr and others. Deputies jailed the suspects in Jefferson after a county court judge fined them and gave 15 days in jail.
