A Warren juvenile was captured after ransacking cars of telephone company employees in a Corry parking lot. He gave a false name but police identified him and he is held for juvenile court action.
A mass search started for Ruth McGurk's killer in Onset after her body was found following a dance. Investigators linked a Newport man and a companion in a green sedan, possibly in army uniforms, to the case. The medical examiner said the victim was raped and manually strangled.
Washington, Aug 2. Congress showed signs of accepting President Truman's veto of the so called tidelands oil bill without a formal override vote. Leaders said privately House may simply return the veto message to committees as adjournment nears. The ruling could end months of dispute over offshore oil rights.
The Navy reports low levels of radioactivity after an underwater blast near Elkly Beach. Vice Admiral Bluidly says the water shows no dangerous contamination, though small amounts could slightly reduce sailors fit to stand duty aboard target ships.
