A fire swept through a Tiona sawmill owned by Jerry Speta of Sheffield, destroying machinery and equipment valued at about $125,000. Three fire departments and Forests and Waters crews battled the blaze for over four hours, with cause under investigation and speculation it started near electrical switches. Firefighters contained the flames to the mill area by drawing water from nearby creek and a private pond.
